The park is characterised by an extremely diverse landscape: rocky plateaus, Dolomite peaks, alpine meadows and deep canyons create spectacular and constantly changing scenery. The rock formations tell the story of millions of years of Earth’s history, making this area particularly interesting from a geological point of view.
Among the most well-known mountain groups are the Odle with their iconic jagged shapes, the Puez Group and the Gardenaccia plateau, which is easily accessible from Alta Badia. The Dolomites High Route No. 2, known as the “Path of Legends,” also crosses this area.
The park is a true open-air museum, featuring an extraordinary sequence of rock layers that illustrate the geological evolution of the Dolomites. This creates a unique landscape where the vast, almost lunar Puez plateau contrasts with the steep and dramatic forms of the Odle, the Cir group, Sassongher and Sass de Putia.
